Why drink water after a massage?

If you have ever had a massage before, you will probably have been offered a glass of water after your session, or you should have been anyway. Here are a few good reasons why it’s important to keep you fluid levels up after a DT massage:

Deep Tissues Massage, and Sports Massage, stimulates the muscles and increases blood and lymphatic circulation, salts and other minerals will be released into your system. Water helps to flush your system and helps your body dispose of any accumulated materials in the muscles.

The breaking down of dead tissue, and collagen, and stimulation of the lymphatic circulation system can generate a large release of waste material in the body, again water helps flush the system through and get rid of the toxins.

Massage can be dehydrating, believe it or not. The manipulation of the muscles dehydrates them and moves around the fluid, in the interstitial spaces between the muscles. Just like when you exercise, you lose water and electrolytes. By drinking water, you can reduce the potential for pain and soreness in the days following a massage.

After a massage, you can sometimes feel a bit disoriented; having a glass of water can help bring the body and mind back to the present.
